Exchange 2007 - Default share with DLL files  - can this be removed?
Can somebody explain me why a default share is created with DDL files in Exchange 2007? With a default install of exchange 2007 a share is created named "$Resources" which contains the following DLL-files. madmsg.dll mdbmsg.dll Microsoft.Exchange.Assistants.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Directory.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.EdgeSync.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.Extensibility.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.InfoWorker.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.MailSubmission.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.MessagingPolicies.Eventlog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.Monitoring.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.RPCOverHTTPAutoconfig.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.ServiceHost.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.SystemAttendantMailbox.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.TransportLogSearch.EventLog.dll Microsoft.Exchange.UnifiedMessaging.EventLog.dll msallog.dll I searched the net and and windows resources, but could not find any information regardings this share. It is "world"-readable by default. Can somebody tell me the purpose of this share and if it can be removed? Thx!

Per my research, this share contains DLLs for Event Viewer and System Monitor, which would be effective if one want to monitor all servers situation on one machine As for the vulnerabilities that you mentioned, please see the last one in the Issues that the update rollup fixes section of the KB 959241
